The South Beach Diet has been a very popular diet for over a decade. The diet is a variation of the Atkins Diet but with a little more variety, yet different restrictions than the diet made famous by Dr. Jack Atkins. I have tried both and in my opinion, the South Beach Diet was the easier one.
Here are just a few tips on surviving the South Beach Diet from my own experiences and some others that I found searching around the web. Remember, before anything else make sure to consult your physician before starting this or any new diet.
[ad#ad366]Steam your veggies! One of the perks about the diet is that you can sauté or roast your vegetables. I love sauteing my veggies but I am busy and sometimes I just don’t have time. Steaming your vegetables is incredibly easy and something my wife and I continue to do off the diet. It is a time saver and they taste just as good in my opinion.
Choose your dressing wisely! Don’t go crazy on the salad dressings. Have you ever looked at the caloric count on a bottle of salad dressing? Some of these so called weight losers can be easy weight gainers. Be a detective and make sure you read the label and pick something with low or no sugar at all.
Oatmeal is your fuel! One of my biggest fears when starting a new diet is how I am going to fuel up before I workout? I lift a lot of heavy weights so I can’t go into the gym without carbs in my body. The diet recommends oatmeal as a pre-workout food. Oatmeal is a lot easier for your body to process and it turns into immediate fuel.
Pass on the butter! I was never a butter fan, but plenty of you are. The diet recommends switching over to margarine. This was easy for me as I always preferred margarine to butter anyway. It is recommended as a healthier choice for people on the South Beach Diet. Buy the trans-fat free or the tubs.
